Mondays with Lu. Retired.

It was a big morning in the McHale household. Our sweet baby soon-to-be-three Lulu began what we hope will be a wonderful and prosperous journey into the world of higher education…the caterpiller class at her brand new pre-k school in the East Village. We took her inside, she dumped her shoes, backpack and lunch box into her cubby and promptly ditched Mom and Dad for the peg board, play dough and promises of a great day with new friends.

So, when I came into the office this morning and saw these shoes that I keep on my desk at the suggestion of some sort of how-to-brighten-your-day article I read a couple of years ago, I realized that my Monday’s with Lu will now be taking her to school in the morning and coming home at the end of the day to hear about her new adventures in a new place with new friends. I already miss my Monday’s with Lu, but can’t wait to hear about every one of hers as she navigates forward on this grand voyage that is her own. Go Lu!

Mondays with Lu. 1st Movie!

Well, not really. I tried one when she was just over a year old, but between the ridiculous number of trailers dragging on forever and an opening scene with real crocodiles roaring out of a bog to chomp realbaby zebras in half…it didn’t go so well. This morning, however, was a blast!

Madagascar 3 was the perfect fit for a first go at sitting still in a big dark and cold room for an hour and a half with a “giant iPad” in front of this almost three year old. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and the gang continue to dazzle in the surprisingly funny and fresh 3rd installment of this animated franchise. Lu sat on my lap cracking up about every 30 seconds while she downed a half a bag of really terrible popcorn.   I’m quite sure that “Datdat daddle latta dat dat circus. Datdat daddle latta dat dat afro. Circus. Afro. Circus. Afro.” will be in our heads for weeks! This one becomes a staple in our house when in comes out on DVD for sure. Good stuff.

Mondays with Lu. Condensed.

Today, my Monday with Lu was partially traded for Wednesday the 4th with a whole bunch of family and friends.  We had a great walk with the K9 ones when I got home, though! So sweet. Worth every step!  Oh, by the way…meet Peanut and Roxie.

Mondays with Lu. Swimming Pool.

This morning, Lu and I hopped on the bike and headed down to The Visionaire in Battery Park City to see my cousin Melisa and Lu’s second cousin Chase.  It’s been a while since Lu hopped in a pool and the water was cold, but she slowly got used to it.  The real hit was the hot tub.  Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!

Mondays with Lu. Memorial Day.

Mondays with Lu.

Jesse and I both have young daughters ages 1.75 and 2.6 respectively.  We work a lot and at weird hours, so at least until school starts in the fall, Jesse takes Friday afternoons to hang out with Sweet Eve (The Peanut) Alexandra Shafer and I take Mondays to hopefully find something interesting to do with my Clover (Lulu) Louise (Uh-oh!) McHale.

It’s raining like hell right now and Lu is still snoozing, so I have no idea what adventure we’re going to come up with for today, but this is from a couple of weeks ago when we took the bike to the old East River Park Bandshell for some lunch.  Wouldn’t trade our Mondays for the world.
