Closing Gift. Twig Edition.

Toss some pebbles, moss, shattered glass, and a model of a sunbathing beauty into an old Mason or Ball jar and you get one amazing and tiny landscape created by Michelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow or one of their extremely talanted staff at Twig Terrariums on 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn.

Each distinctive little moss world is created in pretty much any new or vintage glass container you can imagine and get your hands on.  Uniquely, the folks at Twig add little figurines to create miniature scenes – from rock climbers to headbangers to little girls with signs that say “I love you.”  Give them a call with your ideas and they’ll be happy to brainstorm to help you find the perfect gift.  Also cool, Twig offers terrarium building workshops!  Who else does that?!  We think they are a fantastic idea for your next party or team-building event.  Go check them out at 274 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn.  You’ll be glad you did!

Closing gift. Canasta de la edición.

Despana at 410 Broome Street in Soho is a whole pile of Spain wrapped up into one!  Well, actually four.  We first discovered their food shop and tapas cafe a couple of years ago when we switched offices.  The food shop has a ridiculous selection of meats, cheeses, breads, olive oils, vinegars, olives and more.  Their tortilla bocadillos at the cafe are craveable and everything from the salads to soups to pintxos are made fresh daily.  Next door is their wine shop which has the largest selection of Spanish wines this side of the Atlantic and the most amazingly friendly staff to go with them.  If that’s not enough, they have a chorizo factory in Queens!  They have been making and distributing the spicy links there since 1971.  In short, this place is pretty incredible.  We got this gift basket for a chef client of ours who loves to entertain.  The folks at our revered Despana did a fantastic job of customizing it.  Thank you!

Closing Gift. Tree Edition.

Jesse and I made a run out to Red Hook this morning to get a closing gift for good friends who just bought an apartment with a fantastic terrace through us.  Said gift was to be none other than an eight foot tall purple Thundercloud Plum Tree.  Amazing!  I had seen one a few weeks ago with my wife at a store in Williamsburg and knew it was the perfect gift for our buyers.  Well….the place in Red Hook (named after a neighborhood on the west side of downtown Manhattan) was charging $107.50 more for the tree than the place in Williamsburg!  So, we jumped in the car and went to….
SPROUT HOME.  44 Grand Street (between Kent & Wythe).  They have amazing things that grow, accessories that go with them, reasonable prices, and a super friendly staff.  If you are in the market for green things, inside or out, run, don’t walk to Sprout.
